69 Big Block info?
Will the VIN of a '69 Caprice tell me what engine is supposed to be in the car?
If so, how does it break down? Car is a factory big block, 4 door sedan. Is there any market for these cars being that it is not a coupe? |
The casting numbers on the back of the engine above the flywheel on that pad will tell you about the engine.

Thanks.
Is there a market for a 4 door Caprice that is fairly low miles or should I consider it a big block for a project and scrap the car? |
The cowl tag will tell you what it came with. It is on the firewall

For a 1969 Chevy, a scanned vehicle information kit is available. Goto GM Heritage Center Archive | Free Vehicle Information Kit Downloads, click on "Show" next to "Chevrolets (All Models Not Listed Below)," and then download one for the year.

Go to youtube or Google and look up CHevrolet DOnk if you wanna know if the body is desirable.

Saw a 4 door 67-70 Impala last week wasn't donked, but it did look good with chrome wheels. I was setting on the cross street so I didn't see it well. Donked is when people put 22-24 inch wheels and the likes on a car. You want to really know what a 69 is worth, ask yourself. That car is 42 years old, there will NEVER be another like it.

Actually a true "donk" will be running 26, 28, 30 inch rims. 22's and 24's in this day and age is not that big anymore and you'll be laughed at by others if you throw 22's on your big bodied car and consider it a "donk".

I'd be laughing if I did anything stupid enough to put that crap on any car.
