starting problem

I have a 87 caprice classic wagon. It hasn't been started for about 10 11 months. I had to jumper cable it in order to see if it was starting, but it ddnt work out, do i have to tow it to a mechanic, or is there another way to get it started.?

What's the voltage of the battery?

Remove the battery and have it tested at an autoparts store. If dead, replace.
