97 cavalier heater blower issue

Yes I have a 97 Cavalier and the heater blower is not working. I took a working heater blower out of my other 97 Cavalier and hooked it up and changed all the fuses and relays with that so she ate with it and still nothing. I just bought this car only 96,000 miles. They do have the radiator fan wired to start as soon as the car does. Also windshield wiper pump does not work I'm not sure if it's Associated or not

check the 2 fuses for the system:
30 amp blower fuse...under hood fuse box
10 amp hvac fuse...the hvac fuse may be located in a fuse panel in the vehicle
if they are both good, find the blower motor relay...make sure it clicks on when the mode control knob is turned from off to any mode position....this closes the relay that power the blower motor.
-with the relay closed...you should have power to the purple wire to the blower motor
-the orange wire at the blower should have grd in high speed....and will add resistance/voltage drop as it is directed through the blower resistor
-report back...no power to the blower or no grd

I have changed all those fuses and tried 3 other relays before I bought a new one. I don't have a multimeter to check voltage. I will have to get one.

So here's an update I was just going to go to AutoZone and get the resistor and replace it hoping that that was the issue is cheaper than a multimeter. However I'm explain the situation to the guy and he came out to read the codes on my car. He said with the codes that showing he didn't want to sell me the part cuz it sounds like a wiring issue what do you guys think now the fan is directly wired to turn on when the car does so I knew that was going to throw a codehttps://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/chevrol...4d4af23689.jpg

The car itself runs flawlessly I don't know why it's throwing the codes. Would their be a wire harness that I need to check for the issue maybe it will fix the heater blower problem and the washer fluid motor problem as well. And my buddy came over with a multimeter. There is no power getting to the blower.

what are you trying to fix?
the codes are for the rad fan. Your first post was about the hvac blower motor.

blix282 March 23rd, 2018 10:40 PM

All those codes are for the rad fan? And I want to fix blower motor

blix282 March 23rd, 2018 10:48 PM

Sorry about all of that. I was just wondering if all those sensors and the hvac might be on the same wire harness. I don't know much about cars. I just replace what's broke.

the codes are not related to the blower motor...completely different circuits. dvoms are cheap $20. you don't need something expensive. It must be digital not analog.
why buy the resistor? You don't know if its faulty at this point.

for old cars...get your parts at picknpull. Somethings you should get new but blower resistors are probably $5 at pnp

The dvom was analog. I will pick up a digital one. And the reason I was getting the resistor is because it was $9.98 brand new. When he brought the codes to my attention he said it had to be a wiring issue. I kind of panicked. Well he was partially correct. The rad fan was cut and rewired so if that is what's causing those codes then I feel better about that. Hopefully nothing to worry about.
