97 z24 front end noise

Just started in the front as I turn I hear what sounds like a rubber band and it makes a popping sound as I turn the wheel either direction I do notice it at slower speeds also when I let go of the steering wheel it tends to drift left.... anyone having any ideas?

Check your tires for any kind of bumps or bubbles in the front tires?

sounds like the upper strut bearings are worn out. When they are worn, the coil springs are forced to wind up as the steering turns...and they make a twang or boing noise.

you can verify this by putting you hand on the spring while some one turns the steering wheel....you will feel the binding transferred into the spring. My 2005 were dust...no bearing or race remained. It was so bad I was getting memory steer. if I turned hard left, the car would have a pull left after I straighted the wheel.

quick struts may be the best way for you to go if you do your own work and you don't have access to a quality spring compressor. replace them in pairs.

Thanks for the info Tech2 a friend of mine that is semi mechanically inclined said the same thing you did and I will probably have him do the work since I have never done those before.
