clutch question

I recently had the clutch replaced in my 98 cavalier. I'm glad it is running again but the clutch pedal feels very different. The pedal can be pushed at least halfway down before it releases. And it engages about half an inch off the floor. It feels very easy to push down. Is this normal for a new clutch? Can the tension on the pedal be adjusted any?

if the 99 are like the 2005 then they have a hydraulic clutch. There is no adjustment.

Sounds like you may have air in the system. They can be very hard to bleed.

How can I bleed the clutch line?

tech2 December 26th, 2013 2:39 PM

follow the clutch hydraulic line down to the bell housing. the bleeder screw should be visible near the point where the line goes into the bell housing.

pump up the clutch pedal then hold it down, then crack open the bleeder.

If you have never bleed hydraulic lines before; this type of hydraulic clutch can be difficult and if done wrong could actually make it worse.

Consider taking it back to the shop who did the clutch if they just did it. Tell them your not happy with the clutch pedal engagement; they may bleed it for free.
