07 3500 express

Hello all, I am highly considering purchasing a used 07 express. It has the vortec 6.0 motor in it. It is the passenger edition so it has all the seats and so on. I owned a 05 2500hd silverado with the 6.0 motor in it and was very pleased with the reliability and power of the motor. However, the truck was a 4x4 crewcab with the 4:11 rearend and it got 11 - 12 mpg while not towing. If I was towing it was more like 8 - 10 (depending upon my speed). Is the transmission the same as what is in the silverado? Are they the same motor in 07 as in 05 ?? What kind of MPG can I expect from this vehicle. I know of some people at work who have the 02 2500 with the 5.7 who have over 200K on there vans and get around 15 - 18 mpg out of them. They absolutely love them. The vans are company issue vehicles so they are maintained exactly as the manual says.

The van I am looking at came from an airport hub around Miami and has 18k miles on it. Theyy say they have all maintanince records on it. From the pics it looks flawless. Do you think $16.5 is around the correct price. The original MSRP was around 31.8.

Thanks for any input
TOM

Can't help you with other stuff but I know my 6.0L 3500 12-passenger van gets less than 11mpg around town with always 7 passengers and kids' (strollers etc) stuff on board. We did manage to get close to 16mpg with full AC and steady at 70-75mph on the way to Florida last summer. Once we got there, around town was another matter :(

**edit** the long trip was from Washington DC to Daytona Beach, FL with 7 passengers and lots and lots of stuff.

I have the 12 passenger 3500 06 with the 6.0. I get 15 in the city and highway. I just switched to synthetic Moble 1 and hope to see a slight improvement.

I removed the two back rows of seats which is easy with a lever, no bolts. Then if I need them I'll install them again.

I also had a 2000 2500 5.7 and got the exact same 15 mpg.

16.5 k is a great deal. Mine cost about 19k for about the same deal a year ago.

I guess I would be concerned about it being a airport lemo, but I haven't had any problems at all with mine that was a dealership car.

The 3500 passenger has the heavy duty tranny with internal cooling.

I don't drive a lot so that's how I justify the mpg. In several years I'll look at adding another car or SUV that gets much better gas mileage then keep the 3500 passenger van for when I need it.

It will last a long time. The 06 3500 passenger is so much nicer than the 00 2500 cargo I had.

let us know what you decide.
