The 2500s came in 2 versions, the simpliest way is to look in the drivers door jamb where there is a label that will tell you your GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating, which means the maximum weight with all cargo and passengers) and the curb weight of the vehicle (base weight of the vehicle). GVWR minus curb weight is the max. weight you can put onto your vehicle. Another way to tell if you have the heavy duty 2500 or the light duty 2500 is to look at the wheels, if it has 8 lugs its heavy duty which I believe is 8600 lbs. GVWR and if it has 6 lugs it is the lighter duty 2500 with a 7300 lbs. GVWR. Also the HD model uses the 4L80E (larger trans.) transmission and the light duty model uses the 4L60E. Hope this helps.
