Chevy Express with the 2.8 Diesel

I purchased a 2017GMC Diesel 2.8L/ 8 speed transmission/ reg wheel base/ Cargo van 12/17, have driven 24k miles so far .
I previously had the 2011GMC Gas 4.8 L /6 speed transmission/reg wheel base, had 170K when I sold it.
Both vehicles I had driven same diving pattern and same amount of weight in them.
A Few comparisons I noticed
*I noticed the diesel has considerable better pick-up ,then the 4.8L.
*Also, going up hills , the diesel can maintain 55 without much effort, while the 4.8L was lacking power and would shift into passing gear to try to maintain 55 mph on an up hill.
*Factory remote start on both: Diesel after 15 min on a 10 degree day cabin is just starting to get warm, while the 4.8L is more comfortable.(This also effects the windshield from clearing off as quick as gas engine does)(Once vehicle is up to temp then all else is fine)
On the gas engine for the life of 170K I had15.5 MPG.
On the 2.8L Diesel for the 24K I've driven it get 20.8 MPG.
Hope this helps anyone who was trying to find a real life MPG on this type vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2015 3500 extended passenger van with a 6.0l. I am averaging about 16.5 mpg but we have only put 3k or so miles on it. I would have like to have gone with a diesel, either a 6.6 or 2.8, but they are difficult to find used, especially since I needed the extended passenger van.

No surprise the 4.8 is under powered, even with the regular wheelbase. I don't get that good mileage with my 6.0, but most of my driving is low speed. But I can almost get 18 on the highway. And no issues maintaining speed up hills.
And, 0 to 60 in 8.1 seconds. That was shortly after I got it. I can feel the pedal much better now, I bet I could break in to the 7s.

My DIC states I average somewhere around 30+Km per Hour for Speed. I burn something like 20L per 100 Kilometers. I should double check that. I am just about at 50K in total. Judging by the numbers everyone's throwing out there, my van is terrible. Mind you I idle a lot for this reason or that reason. That must affect the ratio.
About 12 mpg.

I'm amazed. I get 12 mixed with the exact same van with only 31k on the odometer. I'm not particularly heavy-footed. It is pretty hilly around here though.

With the 4.8L on a 2015 2500 Regular Wheel Base the lowest I had the DIC reading was 18L/100Km. Please do not ask me to convert that.
With this truck, I would have to get back to regular use, but I think the lowest I get with it in this hilly city is 19L/100Km if I am lucky and careful. I checked my DIC it was at 24.3L/100Km today. I have been idling a lot playing with the stereo and spending time just sitting in my truck idling the motor every now and then for heat. I am also not driving much more than 5 Km's at a time right now.
I should mention the 4.8L had a four speed transmission. This 6.0L has a six speed transmission. Remember, the 2.8L Diesel has an eight speed transmission.
