Chevy G20 Ignition switch help
1993 G20 5.7L
Problem: Ignition stuck on with van running the other day. After much jiggling, got it to turn off. Turned back on and got it home then same problem to turn it off. Second time I shut it down it wouldn't turn a 3rd time, not dash lights, etc. Almost a dead battery response but the battery is fully charged and new. Replaced ignition lock cylinder today and now I have dash lights but won't start. Thinking the rod to the ignition switch is stuck? Ignition doesn't seem to be "spring loaded" after i turn it to the start position. Question: How do I lower the steering column enough to get to the ignition switch? Possibly replace switch? Note: Haynes online manual is useless. Also thought about the starter? The old cylinder lock was definitely bad as I had a hard time getting the key out of it once removed. |

The older trucks have the same setup as the vans. You'll probably have to act as if pulling the column out to drop the wheel any further than the tilt function allows. If trying to remove any of the wiring that runs down the column to the knee bolster area, it's going to require a column removal for disassembly.

Most Van's ita above the brake pedal on shaft. Not very much holding rods in. If it's just dirt or rod is bent you will feel like its stuck. Use silicon slide out lube after you brush it clesn

The bone yard is a possibility. If you can't find a donor there, eBay is probably the next best. You could go get ripped off @ a dealership, if they have that part in stock.

There happens to be G20 at the yard. Will head down there this week.
If I'm feeling lonely I'll go to the dealership to get taken advantage of. ;) |
