Default Cruise control cable 1999 Van Express 3500

Help. My Chevy dealer just sent me home telling me that my cruise control cable is "inoperative" and that Chevy no longer has this part and can't find an aftermarket one. I can't find any online. Do I have any options or am I never to have cruise control again?

My initial thought was your dealer is retarded......
...........however if true, what about an auto wrecker/salvage?

It appears to be true that a new one is not available anywhere. Have searched endlessly on the net. Before going the junkyard route, I'm going to see if some custom motorcycle shop around here can't make me one. These vans are all over the place. I'm stunned that GM just told me to get lost. One of the reasons I always bought chevys was that you could always find parts. Will never do it again.

Cables are still available online for the GMC Savanna for about $35. The fittings are the same, but it was too long to fit conveniently in my Chevy Express. I took the old one and the new Savanna cable to a custom motorcycle shop where a chap put the new cable into the old housing along with the new throttle-end housing. The trick is the end crimp. It was some kind of funky hexagonal ****. The motorcycle guy crimped and soldered on a new one on for $50. You could probably do your own crimp without the solder, but I didn't want to risk it for something tied to the throttle. If that jammed up the throttle at high speed, life could get interesting. And short. It is also essential to cut the new cable to exactly the same length as the old one. The motorcycle guy makes custom cables all the time and had a jig.
If you can't find a savanna cable online, post again and I'll look up the place I found one. Can also give you the name of the shop in Mesa, Arizona if you don't have a local guy. Worked great this last weekend on a long drive.

if you would post the part number and who you bought it off of it would be great.
Not having much luck finding it on line.
are you using one off of a newer van?
I can get the cable remade locally
Thank you
Ron

Here is a link to something that might work:
1999 GMC C1500 2500 3500 K1500 2500 3500 Cruise Control System Cable New | eBay

Look at the photo and see if those are the correct ends. I'm not sure if they changed everything in 2000. Anyway, I got mine for the 1999 by searching e-bay. Hope this works for you.
