The website says it will work with my van. I’ve called several dealerships and provided my VIN and was told that my van is RKE capable, I just need to buy a $90 remote and pay them $100-$200 to program it. I found the genuine remote for $55 on a GM parts site but I still have to pay the dealer to program it. They said “$100-$200 because we don’t know how long it will take”. According to Dorman, their device takes just minutes and the whole thing costs about $70.

call dorman to confirm.
to me it looks like this will allow you to program a fob to a system that is already has a working keyless system. what you need to do is add the remote key option; this is different. the dealer would have to change the build configuration by adding the programming software. this usually cost $200. it's 1 hour labour for the programming and $50 for gm to release the programming to the dealer.

I emailed Dorman and they checked my VIN. They said according to the VIN, the van already has RKE. They said Dorman 99160 was the correct programmer & remote. I followed the super simple instructions that came with it and after 1 minute I now have RKE. The DIC allows me to configure lights/horn options for arming/disarming confirmation. All of this cost me $54.34 and 1 minute of labor.
