Double DIN Install Kits for 96-07 Express
Has anyone used the Scoshe Kit https://www.scosche.com/1992-up-gene...-trim-ring-iso to install an aftermarket Double DIN head unit? How was the fit up? Better options out there?

I can't quite remember if I used the Scoshe or another, but as a former installer, they're all pretty much the same. I'd tell you that the depth is important, and to not blindly believe one application chart over another. Crutchfield said my Pioneer was too deep to fit, but Pioneer said it would. Depth may have been an issue on the earlier ones. I think Ron (Teammuir1) had to do some cutting, but it turned out well. I'm sure you can handle just about anything, after seeing some of your work.

it's those little "time sucker" projects that drag it out..

Tell me about it. It doesn't help having motivation issues.

Just to follow up, the scoshe GM1590DDB works well with the 03-07 dash bezel. It doesn't work with the 96-00 bezel at all, I don't have an 01-02 bezel to test fit. |
That bezel looks cool.

It's from an 06 Roadtrek 190 (Express based class B RV), I wasn't in love with the peel and stick maple overlay to start with but it's growing on me...I got the swivel based front seats from the same donor...they are nice pieces.

Im about to install a Jensen VX7021 in my 01 Express. Let see how it goes with my local installer. They all say "I can do it"...

The bezel is a b!t@h to get off, at least on a '16.

What I did find on my 06 dash structure was that there was a large cast protrusion into the stereo opening that would limit depth, I cut that out and actually opened up the hole in the back of that space to allow easier wire routing/connections. I'm also going to work on a support for the back of the unit (probably today) so I'll post a picture of what I'm talking about. The 2000 dash structure was wide open inside, the only limiting factor is the bezel. And yes, StanVan is correct...bezel removal (with the steering column in place) is a PITA! |
