Default Engine Knocking and pinging on 2016 Express 2500 Cargo Van with 5,900 miles....

As the title states, i have a 2016 Chevy express cargo van that had a very slight ratling or pinging in the engine, and i
thought it might be something reated to the VVT in the 4.8 V8, as my older van that was a 2004 which also had the V8 4.8L and it never knocked or pinged while towing or acelerating.
This one has started to do it at 5K miles. It happens when accelerating from 25-40 mph, and rattles a bit...
I thought it might be a loose heat shield or another issue, and looked under the van, and could not see anything that could be a problem.
I had half a tank of gas, and put in a half tank of 93 octance gas, and the issue is totally eliminated.
My question to you guys is what could it be, as the manual states 87 is totally fine for this van.
I have scheduled a trip to the dealer for Thursday, but would like some input from some of the tech savy guys, and have i caused any
damage by driving with this condition.
There have been no check engine lights or issues...I have washed the engine bay once, but i doubt i messed up the knock sensors.

I'd wonder if maybe you just got some bad gas, although even that could/should throw a code or two.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean this is a brand new Mobil station that i have been filling up from (they just opened up in Jul '17), and i will go to another station, and fill up with an 87 grade gas to
see if the issue persists. Its funny you mention that, as i have been filling up my silverado dmax, and the van here since pricing is good, i should go through a tank of gas by wed, and i will fill up with 87 again at another station....

I'd use Mobil over most other brands, generally speaking. Personally, I like Sunoco. I'll be interested in hearing what the dealer says. My other thought centers around your washing of the engine bay, and the timing of the issue.

I have always clean my engines probably once a year I did it all the time on my 04 never had an issue with the knock sensors getting wet or a rusted I use a very light watering I don't use a pressure washer and I cover sensitive areas so it'll be curious to me as well but you know it's either bad gas or the sensors are not working
