Hello everybody! I recently bought my first Chevrolet van an 04 Express 3500 15 pass. with 80k miles. The bushings on the stabilizer bar were gone so it made some noise, I replaced them and proceeded to have the wheels aligned. To my surprise the mechanics told me they couldn't perform the alignment because the whole tie rod combination and Pittman bars on both sides need replacement. The quoted me with the best components and labor at around $800.
I did a visual and all seem to be there, there is a good play while the van is lifted from the axle and also a vibration while driving at highway speed on the steering wheel. My question is how long does the front end suspension typically lasts?
Does $800 sound a fair price for such job? I am being told the gear box needs to be dropped for this job. Thank you in advance for your replies.

At 58,544 miles on my 2004 3500 Express, I replaced the Idler, Bracket, & Pitman Steering Arms, then had the front end alignment done. Parts were $348.16 and w/labor the total came to $584.12.
Don't know about the gearbox dropping, but there are 7 forward suspension fittings that need greasing periodically (which I had never done in the 58K+ miles

Thank you PitCrew! So I guess they dont last that long. I been driving Ford Vans for 20yrs and from I what I see they are much better. Better handling and smooth driving. Now I also learn that they last longer. Big mistake from my part, I should have stayed with Ford.
