Thanks!

Nellie is an old girl and needs some brake work (new master cylinder or brake booster - soft pedal with a little too much travel that goes away on pumping) and there is some looseness in the steering, so little investigation maybe need there to find a worn ball joint or steering knuckle, etc.

But otherwise she is a solid old lady!

Aloha!

My '86 G30 (motorhome) had some spontaneous oil pressure issues and started blowing blue smoke like mad, a couple weeks back.

The problems turned out to be unrelated, but the motor will be getting a full rebuild.
(Smoke was from several valve stem seals that completely disintegrated during a high RPM run. Oil pressure issues were from a piece of oil pan baffle that the previous owner didn't remove after he crushed the old oil pan. The piece got stuck in the oil pump pickup, and prevented proper flow. How he managed to crush an oil pan that's protected by a beefy front crossmember... I have no idea.)

It should be back on its feet soon.

The 350 will be bored 0.040" over and get a cam for some better low end torque and cruise speed economy, aside from a standard rebuild.

My parent's 1988 chevy g20 350 tbi with towing package 300k miles on original engine
It was a cargo van, but it sat on the lot for a year and the dealer had it converted and sold at same price. $16k.
They bought it mainly for our 120 Labrador and for roadtrips to Pennsylvania (They made the trip once in a trans am with the dog, never again) and it's been great and a huge memory in my childhood. Right now it's stalling in low RPM (stopped or turns) for an unknown reason and the control arm's shaft is bent and causing the wheels to wear on the outside edges. That's just what it needs to be at a decent condition imo :P

Needs a lot of work though...

I just brought her home last Friday and am in the process of getting her ready for work.

The interior before...

Attachment 11369

I attached felt carpet padding to the walls using carpet adheasive. I held the padding up about two inches to prevent any liquids that may spill from wicking up the walls and causing a moisture problem.

Attachment 11370

Attachment 11371

Attachment 11372

I measured and cut Luan underlayment to fit and glued indoor/outdoor carpet to it and wrapped it around the edges and stapled.

Attachment 11373

The panels were also left about 2 inches short at the bottom to allow air to circulate to prevent moisture and rust.

I have a few jobs to finish up with the old Econoline (can I say that here?) and I'll pull the shelving system out of that and swap it to the new van. I spent the entire day today sorting hardware so it would be organized for the new van. Amazing how much hardware you can accumulate left over from jobs.

I will update when I finish the swap if anyone is interested.

I all, glad to of found this forum. Cool to find some fellow G series fans.

My first van is 1999 G3500 work truck that I still have. Second was a 95 G30 6.5 diesel, extended. It was like a frieght train and was my favorite. Sold it 3 years ago.

Just purchased a 92 G30 dually... check out the pics...

Hi all,

New here. here is a few shots of my 2009 2500 Express extended. Pulls great. Mainly use for work but works great for hauling my snowmobile, Quad and Harley! Sh'e been all over the county already. Next trip is hauling 1 sled in the back and a 2 place snowmobile trailer to Idaho in February. Buying some new tires for her so I decided to look for some new rims. Looking for different pics of express vans with aftermarket rims...

Hi,

I'm new here on the forum. Here's a pic of my 1984 Chevy G20 Van. I've owned it since 1992 and put a 350 motor in it around 1995. I really haven't driven it much in the past 10 years but it has been garaged the entire time. It runs great but just needs a complete brake job to get it back on the road.

I've had a couple of new cars so my van has been sitting a while. Maybe joining this forum will give me some motivation and ideas. Thanks for looking.

Peace to you all.

This is the only photo I have of my "hand me down" 1991 GMC Vandura 2500 camper conversion. This is in front of my parents' house in Ontario when I picked it up, shortly before heading home to Ohio.

Nowadays it mostly tows a 5,000 pound trail truck on a 2,000 pound trailer. Still have to install a tranny cooler. Add in the weight of the van itself (dry curb weight is a tad under 8,700 pounds, fully loaded for camping with my daughter and myself on board it pushes 9,500) and it's anybody's guess what will blow up first: the 700R4 transmission, or the 10 bolt rear axle.

Here's my 94 G10, named "Bubbles d'Van". She came from the factory with no rear seats, and the previous owners added a middle seat from a Ford. I'm on the lookout for a red/tweed interior from a late (93-95?) Beauville, and then it'll be time for an engine swap.

The fridge was the last major appliance needing installed so now I can shift to the finishing of the interior w/Beetle Killed Pine tongue & groove.

I found an early '70's vintage Genset on Craigslist. It's literally brand new. The guy bought it as B/U power system for his home and never used it. Never even put fuel in it. He started it for me and I watched the exhaust go from green to gold/brown as it ran. It will go into my car trailer rather than in the bus...

Solar system purchased but not installed yet. If it ever stops snowing that's the next item to get working on. ...

My racing season starts this weekend so I get to see how everything works. Overnight temps are forecasted to be in the low 30's so the furnace will be a welcome addition.
