tach

Did the 99 express have a tach as a factory installed option?

I have an 02 and it did not. Van have not had tachs for ages....unless the new ones do....
I installed a 2" aftermarket one in the dash.

No Tach here.

Well the way it looks, I spun rod bearings and seized my engine. Put in a new long block to find out I have trans problems. Van is so quiet that I want a tach so I can keep an eye on the RPM's. Was hoping to change the cluster to one with a tach, but I haven't seen one. That's why I asked. Where did you install your tach? Do you like where it's at? What would you have done differently?

The wire harness that goes into the coil has 2 wires, but the connector can hold 3. Pull the connector and the plug that seals that middle hole and there is your lead for the tach.
I put mine in my dash on the square piece bewtween the steering column an the stereo.
It is small, but I managed to get a cheap 2" one for there.
It works fine, and I did not want it above the dash. My regret was not trying to get a 2 1/4 one as that size is more common. My tach is cheap and I have to replace it under warrenty often.
There is an aluminum strut behind there so don't get a super deep one....or it will angle the tach towards the passenger side......

I was thinking of the 2" model and put it in the same place, but after your comment maybe I'll try to squeeze a larger one in there.

The problem is that if you want the tach to centre on that plastic square piece then the strut behind will come into play....but if you make up a plate to go over the dash and cover that pice then you can move the tach over toward the steering column and maybne angle it up a bit.....then you can go bigger.
