What type of ignition key does my 03 Chevy express have?

What type of ignition key does my 03 Chevy express have?

Just bought a 03 van it doesn’t come w/ keys it’s a impounded van bought on online auction.

I believe there are two different types of keys transponder/none transponder
Will the vin# 1GBFG15T931182427 reveal which type of key is needed.

can any locksmith cut a car key for 03 chevy express ignition/door
or is there only one key like my 02 express?

I believe the 03 is a none transponder.

I’m hopping this vans ignition is orginal and isn’t like the VATS on my 99 Trans Am.
Thanks

go to the dealer parts debt. with your vin. they can look up the build and see if it has passlock (no transponder) or passkey (transponder).

if you have passkey theft deterrent...the key requires dealer programming. if you have passlock...they can cut the key from a code and you can start the vehicle as is.

OK I've sent a message to the local dealer.

I looked at a Amazon sales of key blanks curious if Walmart sells the blanks? see outside the gate of the impound lot are the locksmiths, do the vin#s have key design bumps and curves? like how does the LS duplicate the key.

also my 02 express has a normal none tranponder type key however I believe there is a theft deterant burgler alarm builtinto the 02 because there is a red flashing light builtin the radios head unit.

edit: I'm thinking I'd have to provide some sort of ownership of vehical to have a key duplicated what documents will they ask for
Thanks

I decoded that VIN, and it said "Key Single two sided", and "Theft-deterrent system, PASSLock".

I'm sure the registration is all the documentation you'll need for a dealer to cut a key from the VIN.

thank you for decoded that VIN

so the key is the expensive transponder type?

so this means only a dealer can make a key?

I've read the dealers key is $400.+tax

can ignition cylinder be swapped to a none transponder type then bypass the Theft-deterrent system like I did on the trans am?

Must be the first year. The 2002 is passlock 2 not passlock 3 so no chip in the key.

passkey transponder keys will have a + or PK3 stamping on the blade of the key.
passlock is not a transponder key but still has an immobilizer that is in the lock cylinder.
if you have passlock, cut the key and your done. the dealer or ls will find the key code from reference material obtained from the vin.

If you have no key, I have found the dealer wants proof of ownership and normally they want the vehicle towed to their shop. I guess it’s up to the dealer.

The pre-2007 vans are non-transponder keys. I buy auction vans all the time, and them having no key is common, unfortunately. Buy this https://www.ebay.com/itm/222269223169 and install, and you'll be all set. It's kind of a pain that you'll need to replace locks in all 4 doors but what else can be done?
