You could get one of those musical horns to hook up to that switch.

Artie1 November 14th, 2017 9:58 AM

That Escalade steering wheel is a pre-2002 one. Between years 03-06 is the one you needed to match the van, and you could've reused the original airbag. The airbag connector was also different probably. Those steering wheel buttons - don't look original, are they?
And also... I'm quietly hoping that all this red fur is a prank of some sort.

StanVan November 14th, 2017 10:32 AM

Sadly, Artie, no. It's for real. Ron will forever be referred to as "Pimp Daddy" as far as I'm concerned.

Teammuir1 November 14th, 2017 3:48 PM

The Steering wheel is pre 2002... and the air bag connector does work on my
van.... but since I chose to use parts out of the Caddy Steering Column
I used the same clock spring.
as for the Fur... its FOR REAL... you guys have to remember... this is NOT
my everyday driver.. I think I have put a total of 22 miles on this Van since I
bought it in AUG.
This will be a total custom as far as I am concerned... I will be putting on
a different set of Shoes and you could say Radical .
for Van standards... lol

I have seen that horn setup at my local AutoZone....
119.00
thats not a bad idea ... lol...
Glad to see there are still others ALIVE on this Site...
not that I dont like sharing with you STAN...
but I really thought others have just written this thread off.. lol
I wil have plenty of pics to share once I am finished working on
the few projects I am into.. I cant hook the battery back up yet...
but when I do I have this to test.... and POST....ELM327 its the ( REAL one )
lol so we will see.. lol
But the reason I purchased this one was because the other one would not connect to
the PCM... now STAN and I ( on the phone ) tried several things and times to get the
first one to connect... it wouldnt. so I posted a email to the seller ... and I had no
reply 4 days went by and I then filed a claim against said seller.. WOW.. was that
fast service.. huh.. refunded my money a whole 12.34 lol it took a claim not
just an email.. go figure.. people... anyways.. I once I get her back together
and working I will post plenty of pics as well as the new finding on the ELM 327

I almost forgot....
those are the original buttons to that steering wheel...
and after looking at it more I think the mute button will work
with my stereo.. but we will see.. I am not sure how my stereo
wires up... but if its possible I will try to use the volume button and the
mute button and who knows.. maybe the tune button too..
if not .. no biggy.. I can use the buttons for something else..
if possible...

I dont understand why you said I could have used the original air bag ?
WHY WOULD ANYONE want too?
its a CADDY wheel.. it sure wouldnt look right with a black chevy bot tie emblem air bag .

So, I have a question. Just how do those buttons work? Is it some sort of wireless thing, and all it needs is power? While I was a professional installer, my experience predated anything of this sort. By years. Many years.

We're still out here, and enjoy everyone's posts. You impressed me with the exhaust manifold bolt repair, the welding. I want to comment on your new OBD2 device, it's not "Genuine ELM", it's a chip Total Diagnostics built copying the ELM Canada chip. I ended up buying one of the cheap clones, it wouldn't pair with the ELM Identifier, so I don't know the the version, but still maintain that anything but the original will show up as V1.3 or 1.4. Like you, I emailed the seller to complain, he refunded the price and shipping (about $16 total), and told me to keep the device. Then I ordered the real one from Romania, $64 including shipping, and received it in about 2 weeks. The clone works (but not with ID app), I haven't compared them for accuracy, but did count that the genuine one picked up 94 parameters for my 08 1500 4.3, while the clone had 84. So that was what I suspected when I would say we don't know what we don't know.

I'm with Stan and Artie1 though, and don't want to hurt your feelings, but what the hell is with that fricking fur?

StanVan November 15th, 2017 8:08 AM

Oh, I'm okay with the fur. I'm just gonna give Pimp Daddy a hard way to go about it. It's the little things in life like this that bring me joy.
