Unfortunately, with a lower level license, and the frequencies that go with it, a bumper mounted antenna isn't quite feasible. Besides, the other reason I won't do a roof antenna is that my height already prohibits me from many garages already. A large bumper antenna will be another issue for height. When I finally do upgrade my license, I'm not sure what I'll do.

And yes, pictures.

I have seen a way to bend that antenna down and it clips into a holder of some type just for that height clearance issue...
But i personally wouldnt want the bumper mounted antenna... i guess its just i
Up to how dye hard ham are you ?... we all tend to find ways of doing what we want lol

I like your running boards... but i was really hoping to have them extend all the way.... cause it would help in washing the van....

StanVan September 22nd, 2017 3:42 PM

That was(is?) the way to clip a 102" CB whip, at least back in the day. I haven't seen anyone do that in years.. It will be next year before I do any serious searching. I seem to remember one that clips on a rear side car window, that you just clip on and roll up the window, that could go on the middle window that does open. But the whip (approx. 16-18 inches) needs to easily unscrew off. I lived with a rooftop antenna on my Astro, but it was easier to reach for removal. Not an option on the Express, even with the running boards.

So are the running boards you're looking at long enough? Again, mine are 100 inches long, and look about 20 inches short of the rear tire. In thinking about it, I'd think it could be a tight fit on the 135" wheelbase van.

Stan
I like your boards.. I really like the fact that they are 6.5 wide
I have been looking but I have not seen any that are black
and that wide more than 100"
Its not like I am going to buy them tomorrow.... lol
I have spent some money already ....
but If I find what I am looking for and its on a good day...
I might just have to take a card out ...... lol

I have been busy today... after work I installed my air deflector you recommended.
I really like the looks of it .... and so much I had been doing more research on the
net.. and looking around...
I own a GMC Sierra .... and I wanted to see what a GMC looks like in the van
and its a Savana it has a Big RED emblem on the front of the grill that would match
my paint... plus I like the looks of that big open grill.. so I am going to change my
grill to a GMC ..... that will give it a totally different look to.
does any one here have a GMC version of my van ?

StanVan September 22nd, 2017 10:21 PM

I'm guessing you're sticking with the sealed beam headlights? I like the matching the red thing. I'm thinkin' few people will notice a GMC. grill and Express on the rear door. Personally, I'd get a real chuckle outta seeing it.

find that rediculeous priced front Emblem.... you know
the BIG RED ONE .. lmao.... Darn I didnt know they were so pricey .
But your right about the back .....
I will heat them up both emblems and remove them both....
dont have to have anything on there plus it will give a more
custom appearance ( maybe ) .... lol we will see.

Stereo Install

I have been busy after I got home from work
here is some pics of my progress as the Stereo Double Din
would not fit with out modifying the dash

StanVan September 23rd, 2017 5:16 PM

I suspect I'll have to do the same. Crutchfield said the unit I got wouldn't fit because of depth, but Pioneer said it would. My first occupation, (mumblemumble) years ago was car stereo installer, back when dealer installed radios were way cheaper than dealer radios were, and contest car stereo was just hitting the East Coast.

My plan is to do mine Tuesday. And start building the bed Wednesday.
