Default 2005 Chevy Silverado transmision

Truck does not want to shift out of first gear till I get above 3500 Rpm, then it stays in second for a couple of seconds and then shifts into 3rd gear. Makes no noise and runs fine at all speeds and gears except from first to second. Any ideas where I need to look first, or do I just get ready to put another transmision in?

I'd run a good cleaner in it, before I started thinking about major repair.
Any Codes ?
You have the Tow Package ?

Ok, but I'm still in favor of the cleaner first...

When you put it in Tow Mode, the shift points and firmness are changed to some degree, but does that effect the problem, or does it continue in Tow Mode as well ?

Umm, what you're saying is that the problem has worsened !?

Wouldn't an overhaul be cheaper than another Tranny ?

I guess it had, This is my sons truck, and he did not mention that the tow/haul did not work. When you are in third gear about 40 mph and you step down one it just down shift and does not do anything but ref up. You let back off the gas it shifts into 3rd and everything is good. I have not a chance to get it to a dealer to have them check it. I was just hoping I would have a good place to start before taking it to them.

Ok, I understand now, then...
definitely run a good cleaner through it first, that just may clear up the problem. An inexpensive "test" to see if it needs more.
