84 Silverado Gas Tank Problems
 

Hey, I am pretty new here and I tried to post this under the truck forums but it wouldn't let me for some reason. I am trying to replace my gas tank, on my 1984 Chevy Silverado with the single tank, but I am having trouble getting the hoses and wires disconnected to drop the tank. The hoses I am having problems with are the hoses mounted to the top of the tank and I can't get to the parts and what I can get too I can't get a tool to fit. The Chilton guide has been less than helpful on that regard because all of the diagrams and detailed instructions are for a cab mounted tank and my tank is not. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated since the old tank has a hole in it and is no longer functioning... Thanks.

Just take the straps for the tank off. Let it drop and then use a screwdriver to pry the clips off the tank. Disconnect the harness from the tank and the use a chisel with a broad tip and mallet to tap the retaining ring free to remove the pump. If this is carbureted, then it is even easier. The hoses come off AFTER you drop the tank.

if im pulling the tank off a 25 year old carberated truck, im cutting them because i am replacing them anyway because they are old and rubber and holding fuel

ok then. I really appreciate the advice guys. It is a carburated car and the hoses are practically welded to the tank so we thought about cutting the hoses but weren't sure. Thanks again guys y'all were very helpful.
