conversion to hei ignition
 

I have a 1988 chevy 350 k1500 truck with the "small cap" distributor with an external coil. I was wondering if there is a way to convert this to an HEI ignition? I have the 8-pin connector on the distributor. I guess the main problem I see is that the distributor I have has its timing controlled by the computer and the HEI is not. If any one can give me any information it will be appreciated. Thank you.
