Cooling issue

Hello, I've got a problem that hopefully someone can help me out with.

I've got a 1997 Tahoe that seems to be having some sort of cooling issue. When you step on the crake the temperature goes way up and the heater starts blowing cold. Could this me caused by low coolant level or is this indicative of something else.

Thanks,
Chris

possibly low coolant, bad thermostat, water pump going out. check under car after it sits running for awhile, look for leaks, drips. change thermostat, pretty easy to do. check fluid level.

Cool. Thanks. that's pretty much what I was thinking. I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. My initial thought is low coolant. I'll check that first.

could be air trapped in the system as well.
