Fuel Pump or Relay? Help!

How can I verify whether the fuel pump went out or if it is the relay that went bad? My '99 Suburban with 150,000 miles wouldn't start this morning and it isn't making the nice loud fuel pump hum that it has had forever... I've been waiting for the pump to go out (thinking that the hum was louder than it should be and the pump was likely on its last legs), but I don't want to just buy a new pump and have it be something simple like the relay. I can't find my Chilton manual and probably don't have the right equipment to test a relay anyway. There isn't a fuse for the fuel pump that I see, just the relay. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

You can check the relay by swapping it out with 1 next to it. They are interchangeble. Check your owners manual for the location and try to swap in out with something you know works like the starter relay. Also there is definatly a fuse. If your owners manual don't tell you which one the pump runs off of, just check them all.

The starter and AC relays are the same, but the fuel pump relay is different. There is not another one like it. The diagram shows a fuel pump solenoid fuse, but the fuse block is not wired for a fuse in that location. I went ahead and checked every fuse (dash and under hood) and they are all good. I have a new fuel pump coming from the states (along with all the brake parts I've been waiting for).

Maybe this was God's way of telling me to stop driving a vehicle with bad brakes and iffy wipers...

My SRT-4 has been pressed into family car duty. Luckily 2 of my 4 boys are still pretty small. :)

I wish I were back in the states...

Pump and filter are done. Not a bad job. Luckily, the auto craft shop guy let me borrow the "special tool" to get the fuel line fittings loose. The worst part of the job was having to wait over two weeks for the parts to get here. :)

You can check the Chevrolet Pickup Fuel Pressure Regulator .Maybe there something wrong to it. Also check your owners manual for the location and try to swap in out with something you know works like the starter relay. And the definatly a fuse.
