grayish/white color valves?

me eyes have gone batty searchin, so here goes. '98 vortec motor, pulled drivers side head off due to low compression in number 3 cylinder (120 vs 160-170 all others) noticed number3 and 5 exh. valves are a kind of grayish/whitish color, all other valves are fairly clean, just minor carbon buildup. face of these two valves does not appear cracked or broken, haven't taken them out yet tho. both cylinders fouled brand new plugs within 250 miles. are these two valves burnt? or result of leaky head gasket? maybe cracked head?

guess if i just looked a bit harder i'da answered my own question. blame it on lack of sleep. by all indications it's head gasket. tho it looked pretty good. feel a bit retarded now.
