Help needed starting issues
Hey Guys, need some help
I have a 1998 Chevy 1500 truck with the 350 74K miles. My truck starts up fine everytime when first stated, ( engine cold ) but after the engine gets up to normal temp 190 and driven awhile if I shut it off and try to restart it a few min later the engine cranks hard like it's hot, starter draging or batt issue but all gauges read fine? I've replaced the batt and starter and still have same issue? Truck never overheats and gauge reads fine? Any suggestions would be appreciated!! |
does it restart in clear flood mode?
put a fuel pressure gauge on it and check for pressure leakdown. |
I don't have a code scanner and have never noticed an error code when re-starting? It starts, just acts like the engine got to hot or starter is draging?

Are you saying low fuel pressure can cause the engine to crank hard?
|
It sure can, a cold fuel pump will work until it gets hot and everything loosens up... do the leak down test, that will tell you a lot...

this is a mechanical problem that won't set codes |
I would go ahead and replace the spark plug wires and spark plugs to just to be sure that everything is in check. And if after all that it still doesn't work take it to a mechanic. The ignition systems can be very difficult to work on if you don't know what your doing.

check and clean all the grounds for the engine. If you are unsure of a ground replace it. also check the starter power wire and clean it. I have seen this issue a few times on a few different vehicles. let me know how you make out.

Need some help? Changed out the starter on my 2000 chevy suburban 2500 6l. Still won't crank and gauges won't move. I have power in truck, lights and radio. Charged battery, but still no crank. Am I missing something

Check your S terminal wire at the starter, if that doesn't work check your outputs on the ignition
