Odd Vin Number
 

I bought an 89 Caprice today with a 350 and 700R4 to swap into my 69 El Camino today. Great prica at $350 for the entire car but after researching the vin number online today, I find that I can't correctly identify the engine.
The 8th digit in the vin is 7 for which I can find no ID.
Anyone have a clue?
I'm sure it's a police edition but can find no reference for it online.

the 89 caprice
came with a 305 not a 350
is what i thought

The 350 may have been optional, or like you say could have been swaped.

You don't need the whole VIN number to identify the engine.
Indeed it's a police engine. Should make a worthy powerplant until I save for my crate engine:D

7 = L05 5.7L - 205 HP @ 4400, 300 lb-ft @ 2800 (9C1 Police)
