ticking sound in the engine/transmission while driving
 

I recently purchased a 2004 z71 4x4 silverado. It has about 193,000 miles. I have put about 1500 miles on it myself and I just noticed a clicking sound while driving. It does not make the sound when in neutral and revved to similar RPM as regular driving. Transfer case was rebuilt by the sellers mechanic and it took three trips back to get the case to stop leaking. The mechanic was horrible but the seller paid so it was hard to complain too much. Any ideas of what this could be? It is also throwing a p0455 code (probably the evap vent solenoid)

Starter?sometimes the drive does not retract,just touching ring gear

geo1 that makes sense and it sounds like the area it is at. Do you think its a hit it with a hammer kind of fix or a new starter kind of fix?

I think it would be worse going uphill,that should prove it is the starter,otherwise keep listening,to narrow down the noise

I really only notice it driving next to trucks or close to a wall where the sound can echo. up or down hill is same sound.

?, So probably not starter,going to have to take a look,a u joint,maybe on front drive shaft,look for rust dust at caps?

i checked the boots for tears and saw nothing but will check closer. I have broken those before and its not that kind of sound. The sound is a really light clicking like a baseball card in the bike spokes.

Heat shield? on or near exhaust
