Timing on 1999 suburban vortek 350

Hey all new to chevy forum. I an by no means a newbe but feel like a complete dumba$$. I replaced the engine in my 1999 chevy suburban with a brand new one. It runs but has a miss and p1345 code.I have a scantool and the timing at idle is about 16deg. I am reading it neds to be at 2 +- so am I just a tooth off? I have stabbed this thing like ten times and cant seem to get it right. can anyone give me a quick lesson on this?:D

same damn thing...

Dude...same exact problem. Same exact truck...99 K2500 Suburban with a 5.7L vortec. I just replaced my distributor, truck runs good but, I also get the p1345 crank sensor code. I haven't put it on a scan machine but, I bet I've got the same problem. Perhaps we're outside the range of what the computer can do with the timing?

I have tried one tooth to the left, and one tooth to the right...it only runs where it is right now. It actually runs great but, the p1345 tells me I ain't got the distributor in the right spot. I suppose it could actually be a crank sensor failure but, what are the odds? I have NO misses and NO starting problems...runs good.

Anyway...if somebody knows whats goin on with the p1345 code and the timing...please chime in.
