What car or truck was my 454 in?
 

Hey everyone,

I have a 1964 Chevy Impala that I bought a few months ago. Unfortunately it does not have the original 409 engine, it has a 454 7.4L in it. I'm trying to find out where this 454 came from to buy parts and it's been a mess.

CAST BLOCK # 14015445: Means 454 engine from 1978 through 1990, 2 or 4 bolt, Generation IV

Timing Block # T1027AWH: T = Tonawanda (Manufactured there), 10 = month (October), 27 = day, AWH = 1989 Truck, 454 engine, 230 HP, Manual Transmission, L-19 TBI Vin N, 20, 30

CAST BLOCK DATE CODE # K138: Means November 13TH, 1978 or 1988

From the research I've done I'm pretty sure all this info is correct as far as the meaning of these numbers. I am having no luck finding out what truck exactly that this engine was in. Does anyone know how I can find out this info?

My suggestion, since you know the year of manufature, look up parts for a half ton truck from that year with a 454. It's a start.
