Z-24 coolant system

<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start -->I have an '89 Z-24 with low miles and it runs great. 2.8L engine. However, I am having a problem in that I can't keep coolant in it. At first, I could find no leek whatsoever. Now I see it is leaking out the radiator cap. I switched the cap from the overflow to the radiator, and vice versa, but it still leaks. It is at its worst when I fill the coolant. The thermostat acts crazy once in a while where it will shoot up to 220 or so then just go back down 40 degrees in a few seconds. Any suggestions? Thank in advance. Joe |
Yes, the radiator cap has a small rubber gasket ring which forms a set, dry-rots, and leaks.
Then the pressure in your system drops from @14PSI to 0PSI, and water starts to boil. Buy a new radiator cap. Get a good name brand like Gates, Dayco, or Stant. Careful now, it may cost ya 8$ or so... |
Well rivereye, I thank you kindly for your advise. If I can buy a descent radiator cap and solve the problem, that sounds great. Once again, I appreciate it.
