1965 SS Impala wheel upgrade..HELP Please!
Hi,
I'm in the process of upgrading the wheels on my 65 SS impala to American Racing Torque Thrust M's with 0.0mm offset. I want to run a staggered set up, I was thinking of going with 20x8.5 wheel with a 245 or 255/35R20 in front and either 20x8.5 or 20x10 wheel with a 275/35R20 in the rear. Any input or opinions on whether this set up will work without any rubbing? Will a 20x10 wheel with a 275/35R20 tire fit in the rear without any problems? Any recommendations for the perfect staggered set up with this size wheel? Any feedback and info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! |
Nope, wont fit, the best you can do before they begin to bulge and stick out excessively is 8 inches. A 20" wheel will rub on the turn-in and against the inner fender well also, unless you raise the suspension by a couple of inches.

I guess the car designers of that era didn't want thier cars donked in this era.

Its not sure that you can fit with any larger in front. Go with 15". It would be better.

I just put new US Mags on my 1965 Impala. 255/45X20X9.5 on the rear 0.0MM offset and 225/50X18X8.0 on the front. The back fits nicely. On the front I can hardly get my index finger between the tire and the front chrome wheel molding on the front. May have to go with a tire size of 225/40X18. That will give me another 1/2 inch of room.

@Zackaroo93 are you running stock front coils and spindles. just wondering, going to run 20/18 wheels, but not sure if i need to buy dropped spindles and springs.....

I used 2" dropped spindles on the front with stock coil springs. I sued 20's on the back and 18's on the front. You cannot use 20's on the front. The first chance I get I will check my wheels and tell you the exact size of wheels and tires that I used. The 18's are still a tight fit on the front but they work and look great.
