2006 Impala Shaky front brakes
Hi. I have a 2006 Impala with a 3.9 engine. I've put 40,000 miles on it in 3 years or so. I've replaced the front disks and pads 3 times due to the steering wheel shaking on medium braking - after they heat up a little. I've had to replace them every 15 or 16 thousand miles. In the past I've taken it to the dealer or Midas and let them put on what they put on.
I want to purchase really good aftermarket front disks and pads that will last. Something better than what I actually need.
I drive mostly on the Taconic Parkway in New York. It's a very hilly and curvy road. This parkway is like a state trooper convention so I don't even speed that much.
Times are tight but I can probably spend up to $350 for the parts if necessary.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I have no idea what to buy.
It's probably a lot to ask but I would prefer something American made..
Thanks

Stainless Steel Brake Rotors and those oriental pads that MDTahoe likes so well is what I'd spend $350 on. Any other ideas? By the way, my 06 does the same thing.

If you've warped three sets of rotors in 40,000 miles, you might need to change you braking habits. I changed out he rotors and installed ceramic pads on mine last week. Took me less than an hour (4 bolts and 1 screw on each side) and I spent just over $100 to make my brakes nice and smooth again after 63,000 miles.

I bought an 08 Impala earlier this year and the warping of the rotors started this summer. I replaced the front rotors with higher quality rotors and pro ceramic pads for around $160. I buy my parts at Rockauto.com.
I think the OEM rotors are junk and a lot of shops replace the OEM rotors with junk and charge premium prices. A DIY brake job on the Impala is pretty easy to do and you save a lot of money.

My 06 shaking in the front end during braking turned out to be a bad right front wheel bearing (and damn that was expensive $$$). Lightly turned all 4 rotors and installed ceramic pads, Bingo! Now it stops like it should have all along. Go figure.
