2009 Chevy Impala
 

I was told I need to get both of my front wheel bearings replaced and a tie rod end on my 2009 Chevy Impala. They told me the way it is now is a safety issue. They told me this would cost $1100.00. This is at a Kal Tire in Manitoba. Does this sound reasonable or should I get a second opinion?

Anytime I spend over a grand on an automobile, I get at least 2 quotes. Did you ask them to show you the safety issue?
It's entirely possible this is a valid warning so you need to keep off the streets until you get another quote. GM quality is up and down so it's hard to say the this does not sound right. But get more quotes anyway, and be safe!

Steering is always a safety issue.

get a second quote. $800 range sound about right.
$200 per bearing...don't buy cheap bearings or you'll be doing it again next year
say $50 for an outer tie rod end....more for an inner tie rod
3.5hours labour and alignment. assuming $100 labour rate...then gst, pst
add diagnosis time of 1 hour if this is not an upsell.


this is a definite safety issue and tire wear issue.


the labour times should be fixed. the part prices can vary depending on the quality of parts they sell.
I never use cheap line wheel bearings as its not worth my time to change it out later.

I had a similar prob on my 2001. The wheel bearings had too much play in them and could be felt checking for ball joint wear. I replaced the wheel bearings myself with OEM units, and one tie rod end. I sent it in for a front end alignment after I finished all the work. I then went to try for an inspection sticker again (which passed with flying colors)

Seems to be early wear for an 09 Impy but only you know the history on the vehicle. Never hurts to get additional quotes in any case.

Another quote with probably new opinion would definitely help, but go for this safety replacement.
