The owners manual states on 2014 impala the parking brake will randomly turn on to test it's functioning.

It should not be doing it while in drive, or at a stop light, only when in park.

what is the theory behind not having it engage at every Park selection then releasing in drive or R?

we can set our locks to do fancy things. our HVAC, why not something so 'critical' as a parking brake
