LIM Question
 

Good morning!

I have a 2005 Impala with the 3.4L that I've been working on for the last year or so. I picked it up from an elderly couple who bought it new and it came with all the service records. Since then, I've replaced the shocks/struts, overhauled the aging cooling system, done a tune-up and dropped the transmission pan to add magnets and replace fluid/filter per GM TSB 08-07-30-040C. Now it runs great and I've really enjoyed it, but I've also been preparing for things to do in the future. One thing I know hasn't been done is the LIM gasket replacement. I've heard from different sources that that the LIM gasket was updated at some point, but no one can confirm the time frame of the update. I've heard that it happened mid-2004, at which point my 2005 which was manufactured in 2005 would have the updated gasket, and I've heard it happened later. Does anyone know when the LIM gasket was updated?

I had the LIM gasket fail on my 2001 Impala LS. It's been a really log time, but if I remember correctly, it could be 2003 that the new gaskets for the LIM were updated. I'll do some checking around. My mind must be slipping.... Found the following

GM made the fix with the Series III, 2005 and later. My '04 Impala still has the Series II. As I can understand it, they put the aluminum manifolds in a few '04 models

• TSB 03-06-01-010B covers intake manifold leaks on 1999-2003 3.1L & 3.4L engines.
• TSB 03-06-01-016 covers intake manifold leaks on 2000-2003 3.8L engines.

So it sounds like I should be good then. Thank you for the info!
