spark plug wire confusion
Hello,
while I was working on my 85 5.0 Impala i noticed the plug wires were mixed up (1,2,7,5,6,3,4,8) so I plugged them back to the original (1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2) sbc firing order as listed on my intake. It sprayed gas out of the carb uhh ohh! It was running good on the mixed up wires I just thought the timing was weird on it So does that mean since it sprayed out of the carb the dizzy is 180° out? And I looked up 12756348 on Google and that's the reverse firing order What should I do? |
The only way 12756348 will work is if you have a reverse rotation engine.
I am soo confused.. it was running on 12756348 before I did this, I even wrote it down in my note pad to make sure.
But some dummy wrote 18765432 on the wire boots for the cap and I traced them back to 12756348
So what is backwards? Because 12756348 is the opposite of 18436572 and it runs on 12756348 but blows gas out of the carb at 18436572
So if you follow the firing order cast on the intake, and match the cylinder with the distributor cap, all around 8 cylinders it will be correct if it is a sbc. The cylinder order is facing the fron of the engine right side first is 1, 3, 5, 7. Left side is front 2, 4, 6 8.

So something has to be backwards.....like the dizzy being 180° out |
Are you sure #1 cylinder is on compression stroke?
This is still ESC?
Esc?
It has to be on the compression stroke because #1 is the same place for both firing order configurations, it never backfired or threw gas out if the carb for the reverse one |
