2001 Chevy malibu front wheel bearing

Hi,

I just replaced the front wheel bearing on my 2001 malibu, but now the ABS light is staying on. Is there something that I need to reset or could it be that the wheel bearing is defective?

Thanks.

Okay, I just did a scan with my scan tool and this code came up, P0131 02 circuit low voltage (Bank 1, sensor 1). Isn't that the oxygen sensor? Which side and were? Will this code cause the ABS light to come on?

That would not cause the ABS light to come on. ABS codes clear when the fault is gone automatically. If it was not on prior then I would suspect a bad new part. The check engine light should be on for the oxygen sensor code.

Thanks, the check engine light was not there but the code showed up while doing the scan? That's what I'm thinking too a bad wheel bearing hub. I'm going to plug in the old part to the system to see if the light will turn off.

Anyways, about the sensor which side is it and where is it located? I have some trouble sometimes while starting the car, would try to start then nothing, the, try again will start up. Could the sensor be an issue. I had changed the plugs, wires and fuel filter about a year ago, because of this, but didn't make any difference. Could the O2 sensor cause this occasional starting issue. Also, battery is in good shape. <!-- / message -->

Bank one refers to the side of the engine that cylinder one is on, sensor one is typically the first sensor in line or the one before the catalyst. If the engine is transverse the rule still applies...

the o2 sensors are not involved with starting the vehicle, they only come into play once the vehicle is running and warmed up..
you may try running a fuel system additive to the tank. I would recommend a couple of bottles of Techron, if that gives some improvement to starting I would recommend having the injectors serviced.

I haven't messed with the O2 sensor, no check engine light either. This just showed up while I did a scan.

then I would make a note of it, clear it and see if it returns.

Update! Plugged in the old hub bearing to the system and the ABS light went off, so I guess the new part is defective.

Thanks.
