2004 Malibu LT Remote Starter Issue

I have a 2004 Malibu LT which the remote start is working intermittantly. My dealer checked it out and came up with a B3006 Code. Apparently a short in the hood switch. They want over $200.00(part + labor) to fix it - replacing the switch. That sounds pretty excessive. Does anyone know what this part looks like, whereit's locatedand the ease of fixing it myself. Also, would the part be generally available or a dealer only part.

Thanks for any help.

RE: 2004 Malibu LT Remote Starter Issue

I'm new to the forumand have the same problem w/my 2004 Malibu Maxx key FOB. It (remote start)works intermittantly, even the lock/unlocking is intermittant. My Chevy service people last week said the problem was my car battery. So I replaced it ($200.)

I think the electrical/computer system fried my car battery when my key FOB went nuts. It made awful sounds like click, click for about 30 seconds. That occurred more than once and then my car would not start. I tried jump starting (AAA.) Which got my car going. I took it in to the Chevy service people and they proposed the battery solution. I discussed my sense that the key FOB was malfuncting and that it might have damaged my car battery.

Now I have the same key FOBproblem (although the weird clicking hasn't occurred.) Any hints???

the weird clicking was from the low battery and not from your remotes.

etned....the latch is an integral part of the latch. a super cheap easy way to fix this, is to take a hood-pin switch from a remote starter, an use the wire going to the latch to hook it up.
Or just cut the wires off and the computer won't know that the hood is open and everything should work fine

I know this is super old, and I doubt anyone will reply, but I'm having the same problem with my remote start. It just won't work! My remote sometimes locks my doors, and sometimes unlocks them, and sometimes pops my trunk. This prompted me to go buy a new one from AutoZone. Well, I got the new one programmed, and the above functions worked like a charm, but still, no remote start BUT something did change.

With my old remote, when I could FINALLY get the car to lock, I would quickly press the start button at the top of the remote, as the directions indicated on the back of the remote, but instead of starting, it would trigger the panic. Well, with the new remote, the same combination of button presses (lock + start) wouldn't trigger the panic, but instead it would make the flashers come on, then go off..... Hmmmm. Anyway, I got my money back for the new remote, because my ultimate issue wasn't resolved. (((The "new" remote came with a programmer that connected into that port below the steering wheel, and now returned, I am no longer able to reprogram my old remote..... I read somewhere that I could hold down the lock button in my car and the lock button on the remote simultaneously, and it will program?)))
