2005 Malibu Remote Start not working
I have a 2005 Malibu LT with factory remote start. It has worked until just recently. Now it is no longer working. It seems to have just slowly died as one day I started it and saw the exhaust coming from it but when I went out less than 3 minutes later it was not running. This happened last year and I toggled the DIC setting and it seemed to work after that. I did that again a few weeks ago and it worked but now that is not working. I've checked all fuses, the DIC, new batteries in each remote, made sure the hood is closed, tried it with the key in the ignition, etc. but am dumbfounded. The care seems to get the signal as the parking lights flash but it does not turnover. The other day I was testing fuses and after I closed the hood, it did attempt to start but then halted after a second and I haven't been able to get it started or attempt to start again. I really don't want to put any money into it but I really miss my remote start in the winter.

Check the hood ajar switch that is located in the hood latch assembly. If you have a warning light in your dash this is easy. turn the vehicle on then open the hood. A light will come on saying Hood Ajar and when you close it it will turn that warning light off. If you dont have this warning light do not fear. The hood latch should be attached to the core support in front of the radiator in the center line of the car. There should be a 2 wire connector going into this latch. unplug the connector and the side that goes to the vehicle (not the one attached to the latch) put a bare metal paperclip in each socket to jump the connection then try to start the car with remote start. here are some other conditions that can keep it from starting.
• Hood ajar switch status is – OPEN. • Inserting the key in the ignition and turning the key to any non-off power modes, and returning the key to the OFF position • The remote vehicle start (RVS) time has elapsed or timed out. • The RVS master receives a run abort message from the powertrain control module (PCM). • Hazard shutoff switch status is – ACTIVE. • By content theft deterrent (CTD) system, if equipped, and alarm status becomes Violated • RVS system voltage out of range, under 6 volts or over 16 volts • DTCs set for any related systems, or serial data communication failure for any modules that support the RVS function usually its that hood latch. but jumping the connection should let it work and if that is the case its up to you to keep it jumped or replace the latch. also you may have to remove a plastic trim piece that sits over and around the latch to access it easier all that holds it in should be some 7 mm bolts and some plastic push clips. good luck please respond if anything else comes up. |
