2007 malibu ls oil change questions

The OLM says my oil has 60% life but im at 4300 km's and have always been told to change at or before 5K km's. Been hearing that newer cars can go 8,000 kms per oil change and i am a bit reluctant to wait to change my oil at anything over 5K km's. So wuts the facts on this?

also have seen sites saying that the malibu doesnt need a filter change but only to change the paper filter or something. i will probably just change the whole filter.

and where is the oil filter on the malibu? i did a quick check and didnt see it. either im looking in the wrong spots (where usual oil filters are) or its hidden somewhere that will be a pain to get at.

help please?

The reason for the OLM is to cut donw on oil changes and save some of the enviroment..you can change it every 5000km but you wasting money, your monitor says your at 60% still not even half, it is still good, some guys hrer are getting over 10,000km to an oil change, whatever our comfortable with, me I go by the monitor now....Engines now are nothing like enginesof old...

as for location I think its Front center, depends on your engine tho....2.2 or 3.5

Any tricks in changing oil on 2007 Malibus LS V6? It looks like the oil filter is just left of the oil pan drain plug just hanging down from the engine. Looks easy to access. Any tricks that I'm not aware of?

I'll answer my own question. FYI - no problem. PF61 oil filter is right there with no encumbrances to get to it. I used a 14mm socket to get the drain plug off.
