I've got a Silverado, but a lot of the guys swear by the Blazers. We do herds of Mods, I rewired my entire Audio system, installed a 2KW power inverter, put in a crane over the left-rear wheel well, and that's just for starters.

BTW, what's an sm465 box and a 267 lump?

a crane sounds interesting! sm465 is a muncie manual gearbox,the 265 is a chevy v8,i think the smallest ci chevy made in a v8. people seem to think theyre underpowered,which it probly is,but it'll do for now i reakon,everyone wants a 350 or bigger so i got the engine at a good price ,and it still sounds good!

chevy toyed with a 231 v8 in early 50's, but it never saw the public. the 265 debuted in '55 if i remember right. showcased in the 55 bel-air. and yes, the sm465 is the manual 4 speed trans, using 3 standard gears with an extra low 1st gear. 267 lump refers to the cam, 267 degrees lift duration. the number is used commonly in the engine world to describe the cam size. a larger duration cam creates a "lumpy" idle.

I learned two things today. Back in the '60s Muncie was famous for a "rock-crusher" tranny, I believe it was a "M22". Straight cut gears and a decreased gear angle to the output shaft gave it a distinctive, if somewhat disturbing sound. It had a stout dependability that Muncie's become known for.

I'm interested in the smaller engines, because there's a good possibility I will go to a 4.8 L with the new 6-speed tranny, in the attempt to improve my MPG. But I'm going to get the best out of my current drivetrain first, moreso to allow the six speed tranny to become more mainstream. Right now they're rather costly, I'm afraid they like them more than I do...:cool:

i read in magazines the 465 gearbox was a good choice for offroading due to the low first gear,it looks like a strong box and pretty simple to work on i should think,ive only tested it up the road yet ,but it seems good. it also has facilities to add 2 pto's (blanked off at present) which could be very handy for a winch or something else.i havnt looked for a kit yet to make these work,maybe people sell them in the usa?
