95 problems running

So I have a 95 s10 4.3 4x4. It was running fine until i installed a new powersteering pump pulley and belt, Now it is very hard to start, horible idle. To get it started pedal has to be on floor 30 second start before running, once running pedal still down, another 30 seconds to get to 3000 rpms once there runs fine. Once it gets below 3000 starts to run like crap or stalls. Black smoke and very strong fuel smell coming from exhaust.
In a totally unrelated problem the 4x4 has a clicking/grinding/jek when engaged. Could this be a vaccum problem/ selenoid issue r something much more expensive?

issue one, rough idle, sounds like you have a timing issue. Recheck the timing of the engine with timing light.

issue two, check for leaks around the seal of the transfer case, and if found, have seal replaced, as far as the grinding and jerking, this could be a stuck solenoid.

(Read Owner Manual for shift to 4 Wheel LOW)

from memory it should be something like this. Also do this in a large parking lot or empty road.

1. Turn key to ON
2. Place in Neutral
3. Set for 4 Wheel Low
4. Start engine
5. Shift to Drive
6. Drive around the block
7. Shift into Reverse
8. Drive backwards for 20 feet or 4 car lengths
9. Shift to Neutral
10. Shift to 2 Wheel High
11. Shut off Engine
12. Start Engine

This will force the solenoid and linkages to move in the transfer case, and hopefully reset then to a home position. after doing this if your grinding and jerking are still felt, have the transfer case serviced.
