RE: 95 shifter cable

sorry k u know in the 95 chevy truck it has a cable to shift gears and in the older chevs they had steel rods geared up to switch gears cani hook up the steel rods instead of using the cable as they keep breaking hope this is clearer now thank you

Chevyman,

I think the problem might be identified in the discription of your truck.

The ground wire from the engine to the body at the rear of the engine is most likely disconnected due to the body lift(wire not long enough).

Replace the ground strap with a longer wire and your shift cable problems should be gone.

Chevyman,

A bad ground from the body to the engine will cause the shift cable to weld it self together and break.
The reason it does this is the voltage goes thru the shift cable causing it to heat up and strech than break,I has seen this happen lots of times.

Just converting to a solid shift linkage will just hide this probelm as the missing ground will start to show up thru other componets.

95 Chevy z71 keeps breaking shift cables

I replaced my tranny shift cable 3 time it still keeps breaking it shifts smooth at the Collum when the cable is disconnected and when u hook the cable just to the shifter it shifts somewhat smooth but alil stiff. With the cable unhooked from the tranny the tranny shifts easily but when they are conected it is very stiff and keeps breaking my cables. I ran the cable as it came from factor to. Need some ideas of could be issues thanks
