Over-torqued lugs S10
I recently had new tires put on my S10. Had some break chatter thought it was just due to new tires. It was one of those put 'em on I gotta leave town deals anyway- looked at my paperwork and saw they had my vehicle listed as a Silverado which requires a higher torque 140 vs 80 for my S10. Guessing now its a pad/rotor issue but am away from home/tools to check it myself. Would that amount of over torque finish off what pads I had? Any suggests would help.

you are probably lucky if they used a torque wrench ,they probably used a impact wrench .not to many go to the problem of using a torque wrench .whenever my wheels come off they get torqued .

Warped brakes are something that you can ride on for a while, but if they are really bad, you really want to get them fixed before too long. Best thing to do when you are getting new tires is to put your vehicle on the stands in the driveway, get the wheels off, get the tires changed and put them back on yourself. They will be properly torqued and it'll save you a headache.

Thanks for the feedback. As I am still on the road, way too far from home I'm going to go into a shop (no,not again!) and have them retorqued. That is unless I can find a torque wrench/jack stands I can borrow.
Is the difference between possible 140ftlb vs the required 80ftlb a big enough difference that I need to worry about the studs snapping off or should I just focus on the rotors now. Thanks, again. |
You won't hurt the studs. They are not really any different from the ones that require 140.
I kinda have a hard time believing that too much torque would cause the rotors to warp because the torque is even, that is unless your year model has hubbed rotors (BTW, thats a hint to include vehicle info in your signature or at least your post). |
finding a good tire guy is a plus, the guy i go to uses a torque wrench everytime and spends more time balancing the tires than it does to put them on, it costs more but i know i dont have to worry about anything
