Angry 89 Suburban Fuel Pump Relay

This 89 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive vehicle stopped running while traveling down a highway @ 75 MPH. This is the first TBI van I've owned and do not have a vehicle shop manual.

Can someone tell me where to find the fuel pump relay???

Appears to have spark; any and all help sincerely appreciated!

I had a Suburban of about that vintage and it was on the firewall in the engine compartment, up and in the center.

it should have one or two relays depending on the setup. think most only came with one and its like cusser said on the firewall passengers side. the fuel pump relay will have a 3" red wire coming out of it. if you apply B+ (12v from battery) you will bypass all the electronics and give the fuel pump 12v and it should turn on if its good.

Thumbs up

I discovered the problem was a fuse. The previous owner set the Air Cleaner assembly on top of the fuel injector wire and tightened down on the wing nut until the fuel injector wire was pinched between the Throttle body and the air cleaner assembly. I drove like this for one hour then it must have worn through and shorted the injector and blew the fuse causing the engine to shut off. I purchased a TBI rebuild kit with 2 rebuilt injectors and replaced the 10a red fuse. Started up like a new one. Thought i would follow up in case it helps the next person. Thanks for all your help guys!

Always the right thing to do, as we ALL learn this way.

Like just last week I removed an AC clutch shim on my 1998 Frontier to fix an intermittent clutch slipping issue; first time I'd done such fix.
