Frount and Rear Diff
On Tuesday morning I'm going in for my 50,000 mile service on my 12 Silverado 1500 4by4. The stealership recommends changing the front and rear diff fluid. Is that really needed? I've had 4 new trucks that I drove over 100,000 miles and never change the fluid

I'm gun shy about having this kinda work done, because my last truck I took it to a local place in town for sevice and they recommend a transmission flush. Truck only had 50,000 miles. Long storie short they put too much fluid in and blew a seal. They had to end up putting a new transmission in

50 000 miles is the recommended service interval from the front, rear diffs, t-case and transmission fluid. I would do them all; especially if you tow a trailer.
you are also due for a coolant exchange by the time interval; 5 years. brake fluid and p/s don't bother at this point.

if you want the truck to last, change your fluids. trans fluid is the most important...regardless of how little you tow, its still considered severe service. trans fluid life is proportional to the amount of heat the fluid lives in.
the first trans fluid change is the most important. It removes 80% of the debris that the trans will see in its lifetime...from initial part break in to normal wear and tear of the clutch packs.
