Default 2006 Express cylinder head removal...no lift.

Hey guys, i have a 2006 Chevy express 2500 and the top end needs to be rebuilt. I have done this before on other vehicles so i have no problem doing the job. My question is can these heads come off without pulling the engine? It looks tight in there and don't wanna get everything off and not have room to pull the heads off the block. No access to a lift either, thanks!

Hi and welcome. It's always a good idea to try a quick search first. We had a member do this recently, as a matter of fact. You might find some useful info in his thread.

If you have questions, you could try asking him while the procedure is still fresh in his mind.

It's also a good idea to specify which engine you're referring to, but I believe the answer to your question is "yes".

The engine is a 4.8l

Thanks for the link. I did see one person reply that they could come off with the engine in. I have heard it can be done but just wanted confirmation someone has actually done it. The op did not say he removed heads in the thread, just the intake manifold. I will message him to see if he ended up pulling them or not.

Autozone repair guide mentions nothing about removing the engine.

^^^ Well that is promising. This repair pisses me off, i know they can manufacture head gaskets that last longer than 160k miles. This truck has been good to me but it's a very time consuming fix and my hands look like hamburger when im done.

i did hear back from the op in the thread posted, he confirmed they will come off without pulling the motor.
