08 Silverado HVAC issue, won't blow hot air?
08 HVAC issue
I've looked through the posts and see many AC related issues but none that answer my question; I have a 2008 Silverado work truck, V6, auto. AC works, fan works, heat is intermittent depending on where it's set (defrost, feet, etc)and does not seem to get real hot, also the control for where the air blows (feet, defrost, etc.) seems to have a mind of its own.
We've checked fusses but cannot find a problem.
Any ideas, winter is coming!

How many owners has the truck had?
Have you verified that you have a thermostat
in the cooling system? Here down south, many
folks remove them completely.

I am the second owner, I cannot confirm that it has a thermostat in place, I suppose that would be a good place to start, although the temp gauge never changes once it warms up no matter what the temp is outside (winter or summer).

Usually as you start driving the heat will get to around 200 (195 degree thermostat)and then suddenly the temp drops to 170, which indicates the thermostat opened up. If it does not do this, then either there is not one or the one present is not functioning properly.

field, to go to the minimal DIY expense to change the thermostat and
gasket, also a new overflow cap. Dayco, Gates, or Stant brands are my
personal preference.
Sometimes the OE senders aren't that sensitive. So, you may or may
not see a deflection, as the thermostat opens and closes.
