12 volt power outlet wiring melted
First post on this forum...
I just bought a 2007 silverado classic and while putting my things in it I plugged in a cigarette lighter. Smoke began coming out from behind the outlet so I quickly disconnected the battery, pulled out the plug and saw the wires had melted. Now I can't even connect the battery because the truck will light on fire!
Anyone know how to pull that entire wire out and replace it. This is my first Chevy only had ford previously so I'm not sure where to start.

which outlet the cig/lighter or the 12v accessory oultlet? locate the fuse and remove it. sounds like someone installed a fuse of a higher amp rating because the fuse should blow before wires start burning. with the fuse out you can at least reconnect the battery and drive the truck.

You would start at the same place as you would on a Ford. At the cigarette lighter and work your way back. It doesn't make a difference on the make. Something is shorted and you need to find it.
